YES TO AV!

May 5th is indeed a big day for all the UK electorate; for only the second time in politics, the people get to decide on whether to endorse a new voting system of AV (alternative vote) or stay with the 'first past the post' system we endure at this point in time.

Currently, the incumbent method allows the candidate with the most votes to win - regardless of the percentage of actual support from the overall electorate.  The proposed new AV design ensures a 'winner' will have the endorsement of at least 50% of all votes cast.

Surely this is the only way forward?  A system which rewards winners for a 36% share of the vote is doomed to begin with.  Having a representative who can inspire 50% support from all voters (who made them their second or worse alternative) is better than a majority who oppose them.

People will still vote with their political allegiances and AV may just be a new technique with little real change in the spectrum of muddled politics in the UK.

YES TO AV.
